One of the most respected national commentators on business and finance, Oliver spent 15 years at The Sunday Times, where he was Associate Editor and Business Editor, and where he regularly contributed to Times Radio. He crafted The Sunday Times’ business section as a must-read for insightful in-depth analysis, immensely valued by leaders and entrepreneurs. Having departed The SundayTimes in July 2025, Oliver is the founder of Newcome Advisory, providing high-level reputation-building advice to boards, chairs, chief executives and heads of comms, and he is a trustee of the Wincott Foundation.

He was named business journalist of the year at the 2017 Press Awards for his investigation into Sir Philip Green’s £1 sale of BHS. He was also named business journalist of the year at the 2017 London Press Club Awards. His first book, Damaged Goods: The Inside Story of Sir Philip Green, the Collapse of BHS and the Death of the High Street was published by Penguin in June 2018. Oliver also writes a weekly column on real estate for Green Street News.
