Miguel H Torres Umba is a highly skilled devising physical performer and theatre practitioner originally from Colombia.
He is associated with the acclaimed theatre company Gecko Theatre and is currently touring with Kin, their co-production with the National Theatre. Some of his other credits include The Wedding (UK Tour), Institute (Broadcast on BBC Four), and The Missing (International Tour).
Miguel’s one-man show, Stardust, explores the human cost of the global cocaine industry on communities in Latin America. The show achieved great success at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and won the ‘People’s Choice Award’ at the Vault Festival.
In addition to his work in traditional theatre, Miguel is known for his exceptional talent in immersive theatre. He spent over twelve years at Secret Cinema, starting as a performer and eventually becoming a performance director, associate creative director, and a member of the in-house pool of creative directors. He has also collaborated with other leading immersive theatre companies, including Immersive Cult, Immersive Ensemble, Les Enfants Terribles, and The People Pile. Miguel is currently Creative Director for Rematch’s upcoming immersive production Rumble in the Jungle.
Miguel has lent his voice to various projects, such as being the presenter of the Puente Bridge podcast and working as a voice actor in productions including the BBC Outlook feature Grandma at the Grammys: From Seamstress to Singing Star at 80.
Miguel is also involved in community initiatives and co-founded LYT, The Latinx Youth Theatre, along with Community Art Project and The Working Party. LYT serves as a platform for young Latin American individuals in London to connect with the creative industries.
